Drone pilot and photographer, Sigurður Þór Helgason, was one of the first at the scene of the volcanic eruption at Fagradalsfjall last night. He managed to survey and film the area, even though it was very windy and dark out, and the footage he captured can only be described as otherworldly. Spectacular stuff!
Sigurður, who owns the DJI drone store in Reykjavík, says that he was 5 to 6 kilometers (around 3.5 miles) away from the eruption itself when he took this footage. He flew the drone at an altitude of about 700 meters (2300 feet) above the simmering volcano.
