The landscapes of Iceland and Icelandic actors featured prominently in an ad for Dodge Ram that aired during halftime of Super Bowl LII.
The ad starts along the coast of Iceland where pickup driving vikings board an authentic looking viking longship while a fast-paced version of Queen’s “We Will Rock You” gets them pumped-up. Their journey continues over sea as they row their viking ship with the truck in tow to Minneapolis for the Big Game. But they’re in for a shocking surprise when an alert on the truck’s dashboard video screen shows which teams are playing.
This is meant as a light-hearted joke poking fun at the fact that the Minnesota Vikings were very close to making it to Super Bowl 2018, which was held in their home state.
Apart from being heavily filmed in Iceland, the ad also features a number of Icelanders, most notably strongman Magnús Ver Magnússon, who won the title of World’s Strongest Man four times.
