Eiríksstaðir in West Iceland is the former homestead of Eiríkur Þorvaldsson (Erik the Red), who led the Norse settlement of Greenland.

Eiríksstaðir is believed to be the birthplace of his son Leifur Eiríksson (Leif Erikson), who led the expeditions (c. 1000 AD) from Greenland that led to the first European settlements in North America in what is now Newfoundland (which he named Vinland).
